Celebrity media reporter Ouyang Zongluan reported from the United Nations Headquarters: Over the past 23 years, since the adoption of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 (UNSCR 1325), the global community has increasingly recognized the profound impact of conflict on women. In response, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP), and the Permanent Mission of Colombia to the United Nations in New York co-hosted an event titled "Uniting for Peace: Promoting Synergies between WPS and YPS."

The event emphasized the synergy between the WPS and YPS agendas, viewing them as complementary and advocating for them to be addressed collectively rather than in isolation. The event provided a platform for constructive intergenerational dialogue, highlighting the interconnected challenges faced by young women in the peace and security sector.

Despite significant advancements in recent years, young people, especially young women, continue to face exclusion and confront systemic challenges and deep-rooted barriers that hinder their full and meaningful participation in decision-making processes and peacebuilding initiatives. As such, understanding the intersections between the WPS and YPS resolutions and enhancing their synergies to address the multifaceted challenges impeding peace and security for young women is of paramount importance.

The intersections between these agendas offer a dynamic platform to bridge generational divides and gender disparities, ultimately fostering a world where the aspirations and contributions of all individuals, regardless of age or gender, are acknowledged, celebrated, and embraced on our journey towards lasting peace. By promoting knowledge and integration of these resolutions among national governments, the UN, and civil society, we can harness the potential of age and gender diversity, capitalizing on the demographic dividend to advance both WPS and YPS on the global stage.
