Celebrity media reporter Amarov Andrei reporting from the United Nations Headquarters: New York In a significant stride towards inclusive peace and security, the Permanent Missions of Colombia and Switzerland to the United Nations in New York, in collaboration with the Global Network of Women Peacebuilders (GNWP) and the New York University Center for Global Affairs (NYU-CGA), hosted a High-Level Policy Briefing on Women's Political Participation and the National Action Plan on Women, Peace, and Security in Colombia. This event was strategically held ahead of the annual Open Debate on Women, Peace, and Security.

The Permanent Representative of Switzerland to the United Nations delivered the opening and closing remarks respectively during the briefing meeting. UN Women and representatives from Ecuador, Brazil, Chile, Andorra, the United Kingdom and other countries all made brief speeches

The briefing focused particularly on the participation of women in the peace process in Colombia with the FARC-EP, the ongoing talks with the ELN, and the highly participatory process of the elaboration of the National Action Plan for the implementation of resolution 1325. The discussion provided a platform to understand Colombia's advancements and innovations on Women, Peace, and Security (WPS), and their efforts to escalate women's political participation and inclusion in decision-making processes.

Panelists shared insights on how different stakeholders contribute to expanding the participatory approach and applying lessons learned from ongoing processes into the broader Total Peace Policy and future peace processes. The event underscored the critical role of women in the pursuit of peace and highlighted the need for their full and active participation in peacebuilding and security efforts.

The High-Level Policy Briefing not only shed light on the pivotal role of women in peace and security but also set a precedent for future initiatives and dialogues that aim to reinforce women's roles in decision-making processes globally.
