Celebrity Media Alliance Editor’s Note: Today, Celebrity Media Alliance received a communication from the United Nations Department of Global Communications. In accordance with General Assembly resolution 79/327, the President of the General Assembly will convene interactive dialogues with Secretary-General candidates and invite civil society organizations to express interest in posing questions. Participation is available both in person and virtually, with an emphasis on fairness, balance, and inclusiveness. The registration deadline is April 5. This arrangement provides a structured channel for civil society to directly engage in the Secretary-General selection process.


 
 
 
 
 

In a cordance with General Assembly resolution 79/327 and previous resolutions on the revitalization of the work of the General Assembly, the President of the General Assembly will convene interactive dialogues with all candidates for the position of UN Secretary-General and welcomes the continued engagement of civil society in the dialogues.

The President of the General Assembly invites Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) to express interest in asking a question to the candidates for their response during interactive dialogues.

CSOs may register their interest in participating either in person at United Nations Headquarters in New York or virtually in the interactive dialogues and can indicate their interest in posing a question addressing key thematic areas to the candidates for the UN Secretary-General. The deadline to register is 5 April. 

The process for civil society participation is designed to ensure fair access, thematic balance as well as broad, inclusive participation.Please submit your registration or question for consideration: Here

In-Person Participation

  • Civil Society Organizations seeking in-person participation must indicate the relevant time slot and thematic area(s) under which they intend to raise a question. CSOs are asked to submit the outline of the question in writing through this registration form.
  • Registrations for in-person participation will be reviewed with due regard to balanced thematic and stakeholder representation and be based on a lottery. Please note that due to time and capacity constraints, a limited number of CSO representatives will be invited to pose questions from the floor. CSOs will be informed by 13 April whether they have been selected (1) to attend a dialogue in person and (2) to pose a question.
  • If you are invited to ask a question, please keep in mind that speaking time in the room will be limited to 60 seconds and strictly enforced through the use of automatic microphone cut-offs.

Virtual Participation

  • Civil Society Organizations seeking virtual participation and are interested in posing a question must submit thematic area(s) under which they intend to raise a question and the outline of the question in writing through this registration form.
  • Questions which will be asked virtually will be reviewed with due regard to balanced thematic and stakeholder representation and selected via a lottery. CSOs will be informed by 13 April whether they have been selected and be asked to provide a pre-recorded video question of maximum 60 seconds.

Please note:

  • Registering and indicating the interest in posing a question does not guarantee selection. Selected participants for interventions will be contacted with further information for an in-person participation or the submission of a pre-recorded video question.
  • The questions should be on the following categories for all candidates:

o   Proven leadership abilities, Experience and Skills of the candidates

o   UN Reform / UN80 Reform initiative

o   Peace and Security

o   Development

o   Human Rights

CSOs participating virtually will be able to follow the dialogues via UN Web TV and if you are not indicating your interest in posing a question, you do not need to register via this portal but can view it online on UN WebTV.

Questions for the dialogues should not be published or shared prior to the dialogues.
