Celebrity Media reports from New York: On the evening of July 23, The Korea Society hosted a special reception celebrating the ROK–U.S. Alliance and commemorating the 73rd anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement, signed on July 27, 1953.

The event was jointly hosted by the New York Metropolitan Chapter of the Korea Defense Veterans Association (KDVA) and the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in New York. It honored Korean and American veterans who dedicated themselves and made sacrifices to defend peace and security on the Korean Peninsula. The reception also provided an opportunity to reflect on the historical development of the ROK–U.S. Alliance and reaffirm both nations’ shared commitment to its future.

Organizers explained that the commemoration was more than an occasion to look back on history; it also served as an important forum connecting veterans, diplomats, community leaders, and distinguished guests from various fields. Through dialogue, fellowship, and reflection, attendees strengthened ties among their communities and considered the enduring importance of the ROK–U.S. Alliance to regional security and international cooperation.

The program began with opening remarks by Jonathan Corrado, Director of Policy at The Korea Society. Commemorative remarks were then delivered by Sang Ho Kim, Consul General of the Republic of Korea in New York; retired Brigadier General Chris Stockel, President of the KDVA New York Metropolitan Chapter; and Korean War veteran Jack Foley.

The speakers reflected on the history of Korean and American service members fighting side by side during the Korean War and expressed their profound respect and gratitude to all veterans, fallen service members, and their families. They emphasized that today’s peace and prosperity were achieved through tremendous sacrifice and that the ROK–U.S. Alliance was built not only on shared interests but also on the trust, friendship, and spirit of sacrifice forged during the war.

The Korean War Armistice Agreement was signed on July 27, 1953, bringing more than three years of large-scale armed conflict to a halt. Although it was not a formal peace treaty, the agreement established the armistice system that remains in place on the Korean Peninsula today and became an important historical milestone in the development of ROK–U.S. security cooperation and the bilateral alliance.

The reception was conducted in a solemn yet warm atmosphere. Veterans, diplomats, community representatives, and distinguished guests gathered to remember history and honor the dedication of those who served. They also expressed a shared commitment to safeguarding peace, deepening cooperation, and passing the spirit of the ROK–U.S. Alliance on to future generations.

Celebrity Media reporters interviewed Consul General Sang Ho Kim and other principal speakers and attendees at the event. The interviews focused on the historical significance of the 73rd anniversary of the Armistice Agreement, the role of the ROK–U.S. Alliance today, and the future direction of cooperation between the two countries.

The reception paid tribute to the courage and dedication of Korean and American veterans while once again affirming the strength of the ROK–U.S. Alliance. It conveyed a shared message that remembering history is not merely about honoring the past, but also about cherishing peace, defending freedom, and building a safer, more stable, and more prosperous future for generations to come.
